We recently delivered a Premed Anatomy Event at Regents Park Academy in Southampton, bringing The Dissection Guy events to a highly engaged group of students interested in science, healthcare, and future medical careers.
Located in the Shirley area of Southampton, the school serves students aged 11–16 and is known for encouraging students to take pride in learning and challenge themselves academically.
The event gave students the opportunity to experience human anatomy through practical, rigorous learning, helping them see how classroom science connects directly to real-world healthcare education.

Practical Anatomy – Learning Beyond the Textbook
The day focused on hands-on anatomical teaching, allowing students to explore the structure of the human body in a way that goes far beyond diagrams or classroom models.
Students examined key anatomical regions including:
The thoracic cavity
The heart and cardiovascular system
The lungs and respiratory structures
The abdominal organs
By learning through observation and discussion, students gained insight into how anatomy is taught in medical school, nursing programmes, and allied health training. This style of teaching encourages scientific curiosity, careful observation, and analytical thinking, helping students develop the type of mindset required for healthcare careers.
Strong Links to GCSE, A-Level and BTEC Pathways
The event was designed to support students considering further study in A-Level Biology, Health & Social Care, and BTEC Applied Science.
Seeing real anatomy helps students understand key concepts they encounter in their studies, including:
Human organ systems and physiology
The biological basis of disease
Clinical applications of anatomy
The scientific foundations of healthcare practice
Experiences like this help bridge the gap between school science and the expectations of university healthcare courses.
Exploring Careers in Healthcare
While many students attending were interested in becoming doctors, the event also highlighted the wide range of essential healthcare careers that rely on strong anatomical knowledge. Students learned about career pathways including:
Medicine and surgery
Nursing
Midwifery
Paramedicine
Allied health professions
Understanding these different roles helps students see how many professionals work together within the NHS to deliver patient care.
Certificates for UCAS and Interviews
Students who participated received a certificate of attendance, recognising their involvement in advanced anatomy learning.
This can be used to support:
UCAS personal statements
Applications to medicine, nursing, paramedic science and healthcare degrees
University interviews
Taking part in academically rigorous events like this demonstrates a genuine commitment to exploring healthcare careers and understanding the realities of medical education.
