Who is it for?

The ORGAN LAB event is designed specifically for T Level and/or BTEC cohorts studying towards higher education with an ambition to pursue a career in the healthcare professions.

 

This is event is designed to support the core units involved in the above qualifications while at the same times exposing students to to the basic principles of health and disease from the perspective of nurses, midwives, paramedics and occupational therapists. The sessions are orientated towards GCSE prior attainment grade 4 and 5 at GCSE.

How long does it take?

There is 4 hours of content delivered around your normal breaks and lunch time. Events typically begin at 0900 and end at 1400.

TOOLS FOR HEALTHCARE

  • Working with biohazards

  • Types of infectious diseases & epidemiology in disease prevention

  • Interpreting 3D specimens

  • The anatomical position and patient examination

  • Physics for medical imaging, X Ray, ECG, ultrasound & radio waves

  • Observations and recording data relative to normal physiological parameters

THE HEAD & NECK

  • ​Brain anatomy and structure

  • Homeostasis and core body parameters 

  • Full brain dissection

  • Stroke and head injury, cranial bleeds and clinical imaging

  • Full spinal cord dissection

  • Optic nerve examination

  • Eye dissection, lens, retina and humorous

THE THORAX

  • The respiratory system

  • Ventilation & gas exchange 

  • Tracheal dissection

  • Lung dissection

  • Effect of smoking & vaping and promoting health

  • Dissection of the heart

  • Valves and chambers

  • Aorta dissection

THE ABDOMEN

  • Oesophagus examination

  • Stomach dissection

  • Liver & Gall Bladder dissection

  • Duodenum, Jejenum, Illiium

  • Appendix and large intestine

  • Defecation

  • Kidney dissection and the renal system

EVENT SPECIFIC INFORMATION

For up to 60 student participants

For this event to take place at your school, college, sixth form or university we require the following:

Site access from 0730 to unload and set up

A large gym or hall space with a hard floor, a classroom is not sufficient

A projector or large screen capable of receiving a HDMI input

60 seats and 15 tables

A power socket

Access to a sink area (this can be in another room)

A supervising staff member at all times

A nominated first aider

Your event with us includes:

​

  • DBS checked qualified human anatomist Sam Piri QTS

  • Sam's DBS technician to support the event delivery

  • Pop up Dissection Lab installation

  • All porcine dissection specimens, Ovine available by request

  • All dissection equipment

  • PPE, aprons and disposables

  • Printed colour learning aids

  • Printed colour certificate of participation 

  • 50 Question online A Level exam to examine learning post event and check progress

You will need to:

​

  • Choose 60 students to participate in the full day

  • Ensure that all 60 students are given the pre-event briefing (available from the portal)

  • Arrange for your site team to set the chairs and tables up as per the floor plan the evening before the event

  • Ensure that the event space is suitable and meets the guidance: a large flat gym or hall, no carpet, has a screen with a HDMI input, is step free or there is a lift

  • Arrange for a skip or bin to be made available for all event waste

WHAT DO TEACHERS SAY?

Ralph Allen School hosted an event in July 2025, they received a funding grant of £400 and made up the rest via a £30 student contribution. All 60 places we're signed up quickly and they have rebooked an event next year. Hear what Mr McCarthy the organiser had to say...
