We recently delivered a Premed Anatomy Event at Oaks Park High School, giving students an exciting opportunity to explore human anatomy and healthcare careers through practical, rigorous learning.
Delivered as part of The Dissection Guy events, the session introduced students to the real structure of the human body while helping them understand the wide range of career pathways available within modern healthcare.
For many students, this was their first opportunity to experience anatomy in a way that mirrors how it is taught in medical schools, nursing programmes, and allied health courses.

Practical, Rigorous Learning
The session focused on hands-on anatomical learning, helping students move beyond textbook diagrams and understand the body as a three-dimensional, functional system.
Students explored major anatomical regions including the thoracic cavity, cardiovascular system, and abdominal organs, discussing how these structures relate to clinical practice.
The teaching approach emphasised careful observation, critical thinking, and anatomical reasoning, giving students a taste of the type of academic rigour they would encounter in healthcare training.
This practical approach helps students develop a deeper understanding of anatomy while strengthening the scientific curiosity and analytical thinking needed for careers in medicine and healthcare.
Strong Links to A-Level and BTEC Courses
The event was designed to directly support students studying or considering A-Level Biology, Health & Social Care, and BTEC Applied Science courses.
By seeing anatomy in a real-world context, students can better understand topics they encounter in the classroom, including:
Organ systems and physiological function
Human biology and disease
Clinical applications of anatomy
The scientific foundations of healthcare practice
Connecting classroom learning to real medical teaching helps students appreciate how their current studies form the foundation for future healthcare careers.
Exploring Careers in Healthcare
While many students attending were interested in medicine, the event also highlighted the wide range of vital healthcare professions that rely on a deep understanding of human anatomy.
Students explored career pathways including:
Doctors and surgeons
Nurses
Midwives
Paramedics
Allied healthcare professionals
These careers play essential roles within the NHS and wider healthcare system, and each requires strong anatomical knowledge and clinical understanding.
Discussing these different pathways helps students realise that there are many ways to contribute to patient care and healthcare innovation.
Supporting UCAS Applications and Interviews
Students who attended the session received a certificate of participation, recognising their engagement in advanced anatomical learning.
This certificate can be used to support:
UCAS personal statements
University applications for healthcare courses
Medical, nursing, and allied health interviews
Experiences like this demonstrate a student's commitment to understanding the realities of healthcare education and professional practice, something universities increasingly value when assessing applicants.
The Dissection Guy Events
The Dissection Guy events are designed to give students a serious, academically rigorous introduction to human anatomy and healthcare careers.
By combining engaging teaching with real anatomical learning, these events aim to inspire the next generation of doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, and healthcare professionals.
£400 Off School Bookings – Changing Futures Grant
To help more schools offer this opportunity to their students, we provide a Changing Futures Grant, which offers £400 off the cost of booking a Dissection Guy event.
The grant supports schools that want to give students direct exposure to anatomy and healthcare career pathways. If your school would like to host an event and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, you can apply the £400 Changing Futures Grant when booking.
